G4S International magazine has announced that Reveal Media's body worn camera systems will be introduced to HMP Birmingham as a part of its Innovation and Betterment programme.
G4S Care & Justice Services, which also runs prisons in South Africa and Australia, took over managing HMP Birmingham on Oct 2011. In the article, G4S said "among several initiatives G4S will be introducing at HMP Birmingham, as part of its Innovation and Betterment programme, is a body-mounted video device, consisting of a small high definition video camera and microphone replacing the hand-held video recorders currently used during responses to incidents."
When moving prisoners, an officer is usually given a handheld camcorder to record the removal. Now prison officers at HMP Birmingham will be recording prison cell removals with an RS2 body worn camera. This means there will be an extra pair of hands to help if anything goes wrong and an evdenially secure recording of events.
